This set is our replica of McGregor's OA classic set, first introduced circa 1915-1917. The original set is very collectable because it featured wide flange soles, which puts the weight in the bottom of the club head. This, in turn, helps players get the ball in the air, which is a particular concern for American golfers and others who play frequently on parkland style courses. Sometime around 1928, McGregor expanded its original short set to nine clubs, and, with the addition of the putter, made ten clubs in all. Loft gapping is 4 degrees between clubs, which is ideal, and models modern clubs today. Of note, Gibson had two similar sets, the Star Maxwell (with its famous spiral holes in the neck) and the Momax, without the holes. The Niblick from our set is a replica of the Gibson niblick. Note: we do sell the MacGregor niblick under the Niblick 8/OA, if that is preferred. With the shorter sets, we've made an affordable playset for entry level players. Customers can choose any of our clubs to comprise their five and eight club sets. Feel free to reach out and talk to us, and we can develop a set together.
